Yes, you read that correct – Hammersmith is becoming a bit Swedish!

Today, the 24th of February, a shopping centre with a mini IKEA is opening in London. According to rumours – it’s not really “mini” but compared to their original stores, it’s definitely smaller.

It is the first one to be opened in Britain and is followed by the Oxford Street store in 2023. On King Street, an outlet in a smaller format, a quarter of the size of a normal IKEA store, will bring the best that Swedish culture has to offer. Over 4000 different products will be available on display and around 1800 physical in the store, that sets across two floors. The products will mostly focus on home accessories and soft furnishings, while larger furniture will be able to order for home delivery.

In one part of the store, a Swedish delicatessen will be featured. The dining area will serve both for ordering in and take away and will offer all of the IKEA food favourites you can wish for. Count in their traditional meatballs, smörrebröd and lovely Swedish Fika!

The outlet will also be featured with a small circular hub, where customers will be able to access Ikea’s ‘Buy Back‘ service where they can trade in selected used furniture for Ikea vouchers and purchase second-hand items that can be taken home that day.

To The Daily Mail, Peter Jelkeby IKEA UK and Ireland’s retail manager and chief sustainability officer said:

”As shopping habits evolve and city centres continue to be redefined in the wake of the pandemic, this new store format marks the next step in our business transformation as we strive to make Ikea more accessible, affordable and sustainable.

For the first time, Londoners will be able to take the Tube to an Ikea store, pop in, grab a yellow bag and buy all the home furnishing accessories that make a house a home. They will also be able to explore the whole range, for delivery to a convenient collection point or directly to their home.”
