LUCIA NIGHT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
LondonSwedes is a community organization that aims to bring together Swedes and friends of Sweden, living in London. Apart from our Lucia event, we host social and fun Midsummer events and the popular Crayfish Festivals.
Videos from our previous events can be found on LondonSwedes YouTube Channel
The Lucia events typically take place in December, near the date December 13th, when Lucia is traditionally celebrated. The main highlight of the event is a choir procession, which involves a choir dressed in white gowns and with candles in their hands. They sing traditional Swedish and English Christmas songs, creating a magical and festive atmosphere.
The Lucia events organised by LondonSwedes in London are always joined by a special Swedish guest artist who performs with the choir, adding to the cultural experience. Previous event artists have been Swedish music royalty, such as Miriam Bryant, Måns Zelmerlöw, Molly Hammar and Cornelia Jakobs!
The events are usually held in popular venues across London, such as churches, community halls or even historic places, such as the 450-year-old Speech Room in Harrow School. The aim is to create an authentic Swedish atmosphere, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the traditions and customs of Lucia.
The events are open to all, regardless of nationality, they offer a unique opportunity for both Swedes and non-Swedes to come together and celebrate the holiday season in a truly Swedish way. It is a chance to experience the warmth and charm of Swedish culture, as well as to connect with the Swedish community in London.
SPECIAL GUEST 2023 – MOLLY SANDÉN
Every year, LondonSwedes invites a special guest to join the performance. In previous years, we had the honour of hosting Måns Zelmerlöw, Miriam Bryant, Molly Hammar and last year, the incredible Cornelia Jakobs, the winner of Melodifestivalen in Sweden and number 3 in Eurovision 2022. We are excited to announce that Molly Sandén will be the Special performance at this year’s Lucia event!
With over 900 million streams on Spotify, sold-out tours in record time, numerous platinum singles and albums, and prestigious awards, Molly Sandén is unquestionably one of Sweden’s biggest artists and songwriters.
In 2019, she released her second album in Swedish, “Det bästa kanske inte hänt än,” which earned her three Grammy awards Pop of the Year, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year, as well as Pop of the Year at P3 Guld and Guldmicken for the year’s best live performance.
Molly Sandén’s alter ego, “My Marianne,” provided the singing voice for Rachel McAdams’ character in Netflix’s “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga” with Will Ferrell. This led to Molly’s performance at the 2021 Oscars with the theme song “Husavik – My Hometown,” which was also nominated for “Best Original Song.”
In 2022, she embarked on her biggest tour ever, the “DOM SKA VETA” Arena Tour, based on the critically acclaimed album of the same name, which was also nominated for a Grammy. The same year, she wrote and performed the official song “Vi:et i vinsten” for the Swedish national football team during the European Championships.
In response to the long-standing requests from Molly’s fans to hear her previous songs in acoustic versions, Molly Sandén is releasing the stripped-down album “ALLTING DÄREMELLAN” in the autumn of 2023. The album includes nine old songs in new interpretations. Along with the album, a completely new single, “Psykos,” is being released, which was written by Molly Sandén, Louise Lennartsson, and Christian Walz, who also produced it.
