The Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK is looking for an Events Assistant (Maternity leave cover).

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK is a private, not for profit membership organisation focusing on promoting trade between Sweden and the UK. The Chamber’s mission is to provide a platform for networking and to be a facilitator for business opportunities through its events, publications and other services. Today the Chamber offers its members around 60 events per year and there are around 400 members with an additional 350 Junior Chamber Club member within the network. The Chamber has been dedicated to its members since 1906.

We are now looking to recruit an Events Assistant (Maternity leave cover).

The Chamber’s current Events Manager is going on maternity leave in February/March 2012. We are now looking for a person to join the Chamber on a 6-month contract which may be extended for a further six months. As the Chamber’s Events Assistant, you will be responsible for the Swedish Chamber’s events for members and members companies – from idea to implementation. You will work as part of a team that is focusing on promoting the members and building the platform for business opportunities. You will also be involved in sales and Member care as well as working closely with the Scholars who are responsible for the events for the Junior Chamber Club for Young Professionals. Your main tasks will include:

o Responsibility for the Chamber’s events involving short and long term planning of events, ideas about speakers, venues, caterers and sponsorship
o Focus on administration of the events, budgeting, execution and follow up of the events
o Preparation of event plans and supervision of trainees who assist prior to, during and after the events

Ideally you have a background within customer relations and events management in the UK/London, with a proven track record of event organisation and project work. You need to enjoy working with people, with tight budgets and be at ease in public. You must be used to working towards short deadlines, be able to prioritise/multi-task and possess excellent communications skills, in English and in Swedish. You will need to have a flexible attitude to work as our events sometimes take place in the evenings or at weekends. Advanced knowledge of MS Office is essential and Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is desireable.

You will work in a small organisation together with the Managing Director, Communications Co-ordinator and Member Co-ordinator as the permanent staff. There is also a part time Accountant and we also have the help of the Scholars and Office Trainees.

As an intern you will:
o be part of the editorial team together with the communications coordinator and the editors of our monthly member magazine LINK
o be responsible for production and ideas for articles of interest to the Anglo-Swedish network, both for the magazine as well as for our website
o given a lot of creative freedom and an unique chance to build a great network in the Anglo-Swedish business community in London
o be a part of the Chambers small yet effective young team, which also brings other tasks relevant for the chamber as well as participation in numerous large events.

… are studying journalism, media or communications;
… are fluent in the English and Swedish language both in speech and in writing;
… are interested in both cultural, and business related issues;
… are used to working towards short deadlines, are able to prioritise/multi-task and possess excellent communications skills, in English and in Swedish;

Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is considered an additional advantage.
